Why Is It Common To Steal From Vending Machines?
In the eyes of the law stealing is stealing no matter what the dollar amount of it is. While many people would never steal from a retail store, they might do it from a vending machine without thinking twice. There are lots of reasons for this that people come up with to justify their decision.
Some people find it very easy to steal from a machine. They don’t feel it is the same thing as taking something from a person. Yet they are stealing from the person that owns that particular vending machine. Even if you don’t feel it is your fault because you got extra items or your money back and the item, it is taken what you aren’t entitled to. Try to call the owner of the vending machine or at least post a note on the machine for them to find.
On the other side of that, many of us have also dealt with a vending machine taking our money and not getting anything in return for it. This may lead to a person thinking they are justified in getting something from such a machine for free later on. It doesn’t matter that it is a different machine or that it is owned by someone else.
It doesn’t matter if you plan to take just a drink or a snack. Some people stop here and think it is only a small about that they ripped off so it is no big deal. Others go for the huge risk and take all of the products and any money that has been collected. They don’t care if they ruin or damage the vending machine in the process either.
The owner of the vending machine that has been ripped off suffers though every time any type of theft occurs. They may have to pass the cost on to the customers by increasing the cost of the items they sale. It can be disheartening to work so hard to take care of your vending machine business and to be taken advantage of in such a manner.
The two most common ways that owners of vending machines deter theft is by installing video cameras and alarms. Still, you will be surprised at the lengths people will go to in order to take what they want. For those vending machines that don’t have such equipment, they are prime targets for such events to happen.
The fact that no one is around to see you and there aren’t any such devices in place doesn’t mean it is acceptable to steal from vending machines. Some people do it for a thrill while others think they’re getting even for something. You also have those that are just out to get something for free at any cost.
Although vending machines are common targets for theft, you don’t want to be involved in such activities. It is a sure way to get yourself involved in a legal mess. As a citizen, you should be willing to report any suspicious activities at a vending machine as well. You never know when you might be stopping someone from continuing to rip them off.
