Know the Different Types of Franchise Business Opportunities

by Franco Andretti

Now that you’ve researched into some franchise opportunities you must have a general idea about the types of franchises. There are a few different types of franchises available and even though they might seem like a good deal you still must be aware of the pros and cons of each type. Being quite knowledgeable about the types of franchise opportunities will help you make a good choice of which franchise to go into.

There are two main categories when referring to franchise opportunities. These are product and trade name franchising and business format franchising.

Product and trade name franchises are the big blue chip industries such as soft drinks or beverages, vehicles and gas companies. In this situation, the huge organizations supply the merchandise, logo and trademarks. In addition, they are responsible for the advertising. The franchisee don’t pay royalties on the sales and is there to sell the products or service supplied by the franchiser. In order to have everything needed to run a successful franchise, the franchiser helps with the set up, scouts out a lucrative location and supplies anything else required to run the business.

The second method is business format franchising. An essential part of the business format franchising is the use of trademarks and logos. The franchiser will help with the site selection and the franchise company will determine the design and layout of the business.

When some studies recommend that the colors of the walls and seating in fast food restaurants seem to influence how swiftly the customers eat, it’s not surprising that franchisers are eager to engage with the franchisee at even this most fundamental level. The franchiser will also be involved in training and advertising, even having a state in the preferred philosophy and mindset of its employees.

Some great examples of this are automotive services, convenience stores, hair salons and hairdressers, fast food chains, real estate agents and recruitment agencies.

There may be a fee that the franchisee will have to pay up front and it is referred to as the start up costs. Additional payments are the royalties for the continual support of the franchiser.

Whichever type of franchise you feel is best, you have to take into account how good a salesperson you’re and which area you feel you’d be best suited to. Remember, the popularity of a brand name may not translate into immediate success. Franchising might be a great business opportunity, but you should select your franchise wisely.
