Keeping Children Happy in a Restaurant
Is your restaurant appealing to those with kids? You might be surprised to discover that children don’t just enjoy eating at fast food places. They do want to go where they can have some fun and enjoy great food. They want to be comfortable when they eat out. They have the ability to also pick up on when mom and father are comfortable too and this will help to relieve any anxiety they might have.
If you can set up your establishment so there are both booths and tables in place you’ll be able to keep all of your guests happy. Many parents prefer a booth so they can put their children on the inside. It makes it harder for them to get away from them if they get the urge. It also prevents spills of small children in a booster seat. With a chair they have the ability to lean too far one way and topple over.
For very small children you need to be offering both booster chairs and high chairs. At a table a child is more likely to fall from a booster chair though. With a booth they have some support on the sides. High chairs are a necessity for people with young kids and they’ll anticipate you to have enough on hand to meet the demand.
For many kids, one of the hardest parts of being in a restaurant is waiting for their food. This is when they tend to become the most active. If you can offer them a very light food item to get them started it can take the edge off of it. Take to the parents to see if this is something they might be able to benefit from or not.
Games are something that kids of all ages can take part in. Come of with some fun ones that don’t have too many rules. These games can be placed on the table for everyone to like. Look for those they can build with or easily get the hang of. You want to make sure you don’t have very small pieces that a child can choke on and that everything can easily be washed.
Nothing is simpler that providing them with a page to color or to do activities on though. It can be something related to your business or to the season. Try to get new ones in on a regular basis too. This way children that come in frequently don’t end up bored as they’ve already done that one over and over again.
Be supportive when parents come in with their own agenda for keeping their children happy. It can be a game or a few toys that they allow their child to like before the meal. Should some be left behind you can keep them in a safe location until someone calls or comes in to pick them up.
Make sure your restaurant is appealing to those with children. This will bring plenty more business your way. It is understandable that not each type of restaurant is appropriate to bring children into. Yet if you’re leaning in that direction then you definitely want to be as accommodating as possible.
