Getting A Terrific Tanning Experience
Everything isn’t always what it seems when you decide to get some type of indoor tanning procedure. I have learned this first hand, and what an experience it turned out to be. While I have the ability to laugh about it now, I was very humiliated for a long time about the entire experience. I learned a valuable lesson that day – never assume anything when it comes to tanning.
Technology has certainly offered us some new things when it comes to indoor tanning. For years I have been a fan of tanning beds as I simply burn when tanning outdoors. Since I don’t want to spend all summer either white or red, this works well for me. I hadn’t started tanning yet and we were going to take a vacation. I wanted to get some color in a hurry and a local tanning salon had just started an airbrush option.
There was no booth to step into though when I got to the tanning salon. I was never told that though looking back on it all. I just assumed from information I had read on the web this is what I would be in for. So it is mainly my fault for not taking the time to ask. I do think it would have been nice though if the salon had asked if I had done the procedure before. Then they could have offered me more information on what was to take place.
I decided to leave these articles of clothing on in order to be able to check to see the difference in my original color and the tanning color after I was done. I was very glad a decided to do this or I likely would have ran to hide. I think the woman in the tanning salon just assumed I knew what was going to take place as nothing was really explained to me.
My initial reaction was to simply tell her no way and to get dressed quickly. Yet I was also embarrassed to tell her I wasn’t going to be comfortable with this. To her merit, she did her job very well. She tried her best to make me feel comfortable during it. I was just unable to rest and I am sure she has dealt with that before. I was certain though that airbrush tanning wasn’t something I would be doing ever again.
The entire process only lasted about 15 minutes. Yet as you all know, time can seem like eternity when you are in a situation that doesn’t sit well with you. I think I would have rather spent that afternoon at the dentist than at the tanning salon. When she asked if I would like to schedule another appointment I told her I would call, but of course I didn’t.
I do have to admit that the results from the airbrush tanning session were very good. I was able to like my vacation with a very nice color on my skin. Yet I never did go back for another session. I enjoy my privacy way to much for that so I went back to my usual tanning bed. I also let many people know what had happened so they would be prepared if they ever decided to make such an appointment.
From my unbelievable tanning experience I learned to be more assertive. I learned to never assume what you’ll get. Take the time to ask and to find out the facts. Should a business not have the time to answer such questions for me, I simply have the attitude that I don’t have the time to spend in their facility.
