Are Home For Sale Signs Important?

by Hal James

How times change. Five years ago you could sell your abode if you just thought about it. Now the market is as tough as rawhide. To move your home in this market, you need to focus on the finer elements of selling it.

There are a lot of factors that go into selling a home. From landscaping to fixes, there are plenty of guides on the things you need to do to get your home in shape before listing it on the market. In this article, we are going to take a look at a specific part of your marketing.

This is the digital age. This means you should be posting your home on real estate sites like FSBOAmerica.org. That doesn’t mean you should ignore the basics, however. They still can make or break the sale of your home.

One of the simplest and oldest strategies for advertising a home is the real estate sign. You know, the “for sale by owner” red and white signs. The internet is great, but these signs really work if you use them.

The first thing a buyer looks for when seriously shopping for a home is, well, a home. Right? Wrong. Yes, buyers can sit at their desk and click through home listings, but they are really looking for areas before homes.

Location, location, location. It is the primary rule of real estate. Buyers know this and look for good locations. They then drive those neighborhoods to get a feel for them. Now do you see how your sign could attract buyer interest?

The eyes are said to be a path to the soul of a person. Your signage is a path to your home. Your space is limited, so make sure to provide basic information including beds, bathrooms, price and contact information.

The purpose of the for sale sign around the neighborhood is only to generate a bit of interest by buyers. The for sale sign you post at your home has an entirely different purpose. It should provide much more information and be non-threatening.

When selling your home, you should have a stand alone sign on the front lawn. That sign should have the basic information, but also a plexiglass box. The box should contain brochures with a full profile of your home and photos.

Take a second and think about what those old real estate signs have done. A person who had no clue your home was for sale now has a brochure in their hand. What did it cost you? A couple bucks for signs and some time. That’s it.
