Six Good Reasons to Screen Potential Applicants for a Job

by Simon M Skinner

There are many reasons why you might want to screen potential employees before you hire them. Even if you are desperate for an employee, it is still a good idea to know what you are getting into.

To Know Their History

To assist you in making a good judgment about a potential employee it is important to learn about their past employment record. This will help you to decide whether or not they are likely to perform well for you in their new role.

Discover Their Abilities

When potential employees undertake screening their abilities will be apparent and you will get a good idea of what they are capable of. This will ensure your decisions about whether or not to recruit them, are much easier for you to make.

Be Aware of Their Strengths

Strengths and abilities are two different things and when you screen your candidates you will be able to see what they can do, and how well they can do it. Are they natural born leaders? Are they to be regarded as honest and trustworthy individuals? These are the questions you should be asking to make sure they are right for the position being applied for.

Be Aware of Their Weaknesses

Although weaknesses can sometimes prevent a person from efficiently carrying out the duties of their job, certain weaknesses are not always to be taken as a negative and you may find that people with weak spots have a lot of other attributes to offer as part of a team. You do, however, need to be aware of potential employee’s weaknesses when making a decision about whether or not to employ them.

Make Sure They Are Interested

The screening process gives you the opportunity to see that the potential employee is actually interested in the job you have on offer. Throughout the screening process, the potential employee can ask questions to enable him or her to understand what the job entails and get a feel of what would be expected of them. How interested they are in the job will help you to make the decision of whether of not to employ them.

Make the All-Important Match

When you screen potential employees, it is the best chance that you have to make sure that you are making a good match. When you are screening employees, talking to them, and getting a feel for who they are and what they are about, you will be able to make sure that you have made a good match with your new employees.

It is important for you to find the right employee for your needs and, although screening potential candidates can be a long and tiresome process, it is a helpful procedure to ensure your new employees are suitable for the job and likely to stay with you for a long period of time.

The Portrait of a Customer Service Superstar

by Cary Cavitt

There was something distinctively different and attractive in the way that Sara Smith treated others. As an employee, she was a shining example for other co-workers simply because of her friendly personality. People tended to gravitate toward her. This was especially true in her relationships with the many loyal customers that she had won over the years.

Sara had what it took to be what I would classify as a “customer service superstar.” She had the ability to keep customers and help others within the organization to become their best on the job. Each day Sara made a positive impact for the company and consistently delivered outstanding customer service.

Anyone who knew Sara would always comment on her geniune friendliness toward others. Customers would feel comfortable from the start because of the warm and friendly welcome she gave to them. She consistently showed others respect and always took an interest in others. Even her pleasant tone of voice had a way of drawing people back. Her ability to make customers feel important was due to how Sara consistently gave them her undivided attention.

Another outstanding feature of Sara was her ability to listen to others without interrupting. Customers truly felt that she cared about them. It became evident within the first few minutes of being served by Sara that she sincerely cared that her customers were well taken care of.

Another great attribute that made Sara a customer service superstar was her enthusiasm for serving others. People tended to gravitate toward her by her unselfish focus on her customers. Anyone who knew Sara could see that she truly considered it an honor to serve others. This positive attribute also had a way of bringing out the best in her fellow co-workers.

Sara consistently showed an attitude of appreciation to every customer who she had the honor of serving. When a customer was being served by Sara, she always made sure that each person was given a sincere thank-you. This attitude made customers walk away with an outstanding service experience and made them want to continue to come back.

Sara also had an innate ability of making her customers feel accepted by the sincere respect and warm welcome that she consistently showed to others. Never one to speak unkindly, Sara always had an encouraging word to both her co-workers and customers. Her words were always positive, encouraging, and never critical. Everyone on her team appreciated how she chose her words wisely.

Her sincerity in helping as well as expressing appreciation to her customers had a way of bringing them back time and again. Everyday customers would arrive and ask if Sara was available to help them. There were even those who would go out of their way simply to be served by her. Even though customers had other places where they could get the same product, they would drive the extra miles simply because of the way Sara made them feel. She was valued by her organization, encouraging to her co-workers, and treasured by her customers. This is what made Sara a customer service superstar.

What Is A Credit Score Rating Scale?

by William Blake

No doubt about it, credit score rating scales are confusing. Working through all the numbers can leave you wondering what it all means. Understanding ratings and how they work will help you to read and understand your credit score more easily.

There are several pieces of information reviewed by companies when they build your credit score. These factors include the following:

- Your past payment history – When you pay your bills – The amount of outstanding debt you have – The length of your credit history

Large amounts of debt and short credit history will result in a lower credit score even if there are no problems that stand against your credit.

Recently, credit applications take your credit score into consideration. Applying often for credit by filling out store applications for credit cards will cause you to receive a lower score. High amounts of credit card debt at high interest rates will do the same damage.

700 or higher is considered to be a good credit score. Being awarded credit at low interest rates should not be a problem if you have a score of 700 or higher.

If your score is between 450 and 650, it indicates that your credit needs some work to improve it. At this level you’ll likely have a harder time finding a loan or qualifying for a credit card without some type of security. You will also likely be paying a higher interest rate because you are considered a higher risk.

Below 450 and you likely won’t qualify for a loan or credit card until you pursue some form of credit counseling to improve your score.

To improve your rating, check out the many sources that can assist you. Credit counseling services are available online as well as in the telephone book and many offer their services for free. Assessment of your financial situation is available and advice to improve your credit score will likely move you toward your goal of a higher credit score.

Find a Janitorial Service

by R. Michael Richmond

The janitorial industry might be the last place you might think of nationwide innovation, but the janitorial business is in transition as the Green movement takes over. This is no longer an obscure industry of brooms, mops, and trash removal. Things are changing rapidly and the Green market has brought new value to every janitorial service that cleans our schools, homes, offices, and factories. The reason is that the janitorial service is the starting point of Green operation.

Florida is an example of the impact of Green mandates. Governor Christ passed a requirement that the state would not do business with any hotel that did not conform to a Green facility. This created an immediate rush for hotels to Go Green. Similar rules are being passed in other states that will affect nearly every type of business.

The states of New York and Illinois passed similar versions of a Green School Act mandating that all schools adopt Green products and Green practices in the cleaning of their buildings. New York has now mandated that all building owners take their buildings to a Green status by May of 2009. Other states will soon follow, and you see that the smaller market share for Green services will soon explode into the majority of all janitorial accounts.

You already know that Bill Clinton signed Executive Order 13101 that required all government agencies and building to install Green products and services. George W Bush signed another executive order strengthening Green requirements in government facilities. Already, cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, and Fort Lauderdale are promoting their cities as “Green Cities” asking all companies and corporations to “Go Green.” You can easily see why knowledgeable people are predicting that the Green market will take over all businesses in the next two years.

Beware of Green pretenders, however. Many janitorial services are using token efforts to participate in this new, Green economy. They are adding a few Green products to their janitor cart and they will pick up some HEPA vacuums as the older models wear out. The fact is that you cannot buy Green in a bottle. It is a practice as much as it is the product being used. When all janitorial services have adding in a few Green products, we will reach something called “Green Equalization” where all look alike but none are fully qualified.

The great separator of pretenders from Green janitorial services is their training and certification. This seems the only way to validate the level of knowledge and the commitment to reputable Green services. Green Clean Institute is now the largest training and certification program in America and Canada. Rather than self-appointment as a Green janitorial firm, it is important that an independent third party organization establishes a standard and required training for true certification. When a company who does the service also sets their own standard for performance, we are all left with arbitrary and conflicting ideas of what to expect.

Green Clean Institute has one of the largest student bodies of any comparable program with over 500 students nationally, as well was several international students. Recently, Green Clean Institute – Canada” has been established to bring the same training and certification to the Canadian janitorial and cleaning firms. If your company plans to “Go Green,” we suggest that you start at the most logical process in your building … the cleaning service.

Unfortunately, many otherwise intelligent people mistaken use the word Green as a synonym for environmentalism. This is a mistake since Green is always a health-related topic. The LEED program adds to this confusion by including items like energy and water conservation, building materials, and access to public transportation into their version of the Green Building. Green Clean Institute believes that the Green Building should focus on indoor air quality and the health concerns of the people who live, shop, or work in the facility.

What is the effect of the Green Cleaning movement on the janitorial industry? The facts are clean that the cleaning and janitorial world is in transition, and it will be forever changed to what will come to be known as the Green Janitorial era. How people transition to this new status will differ, and there will be those who try to ignore it until the Green practice is literally forced on them by mandate.

Understanding Spinal surgery for Scoliosis

by Tamera Beartoes

The spine is made of many small bones called vertebrae, coupled together by muscles and ligaments. Even though the spine does curvature from front to back but it should not curve sideways too much. This side to side bend is known as scoliosis and may possibly acquire the shape of “S” (double curve) or a long “C” (single curve).

Spinal curves can be caused my many factors. Many babies are born with natural spine defects while others suffer from nerve or muscle disorders. In many common cases, the reason for scoliosis cannot be identified. There is no possible cure for it as well. So if you have scoliosis, doctors don’t have a cure for it or prevention. Scoliosis frequently starts in the early ages of 8 and 10. Scoliosis is cruel as the curve is mainly frequently found in girls.

Scoliosis frequently shows no signs or symptoms in children till the spinal curve develops fully. There are however many noticeable signs which can be noticed by parent, doctors, orthopedists, scoliosis, orthopedic surgeons and nurses. These signs include one shoulder or hip that looks elevated than the other. The patient’s waistline is plane on one side, or the ribs may appear uppers on one side when the patient twists frontward at the waist. In adults, scoliosis may result in back pain and difficulty breathing.

Light exercises can have many health advantages apart from any possible affect on scoliosis. Treatment of scoliosis with any known cause can help in avoiding future problems. Adults that have slight or harsh scoliosis can have increasingly worsened curves along with bad back pain in worst cases of trouble breathing. Treatment of the curve has become critical in maturity and has a fewer success rate than treatment in childhood or teenage period. Slight or easy cases of scoliosis frequently not require treatment. Doctors need to check and test the curve of the patient’s spine every 4 to 6 months continuously. In serious conditions, or when bracing doesn’t help, then it’s necessary to have surgery.

Some curvatures don’t respond to bracing therapy, if you possess a curve such as this, then you will require surgery. However Scoliosis surgery procedures have various possible implications which may consist of heavy blood loss, paraplegia and infection in the hip joints, degenerated tissues and even death.

The main scoliosis surgery complications include: Allergic reactions, Bleeding, Postoperative pain, Nerve damage, Pseudoarthrosis, Disc degeneration, Low back pain.

The treatment of scoliosis without surgery i.e. exercises or braces or other techniques are also possible but it will depend upon the position, and also the scale (cruelty) of the curve.

A physical therapy specialist can make a better estimate of your latest position, muscle force, and elasticity to suggest you a home based plan which may be intended particularly for you or your patient.

Imagine: You with Less Stress

by Sara Mendez

Now is the only time that is important. Many people get caught up in their day to day lives and focus on the future which can bring about anxiety or stress. Stress can cause many problems such as concentration issues, lack of good judgment, negativity and lack of productivity. The best way to combat these feelings of stress is through relaxation. Relaxation plays in a key roll in leading a healthy happy life. Relaxation takes as little as ten minutes a day and can be as simple as breathing exercises, or as challenging as a kick boxing class, the choice is yours.

Work, marriage and money are just a few things which can cause stress in peoples day to day lives. Often people get so busy and think they have no time to relax. They can also be fooled into thinking that they need to do something extreme or go someplace such as going on vacation to relax. These people are mistaken, relaxation can happen at home, in the office or while driving. The key is to train the mind to relax.

Finding the best method can be the hardest challenge on your road to relaxation. First you need to decide what sorts of things you enjoy. It could be a range of things such as surfing the web, reading, meditating or walking.

Something simple like watching TV, listening to music, surfing the web and reading offer a break from regular day to day situations. Books can create a world completely different from your own as can a good movie or song. Each of these activities help your mind escape into a visually exciting place.

Learning to control your breathing and meditation can be a little more complicated since you must learn these techniques in order for them to work properly. Meditation can help you learn to reflect on situations and to control your breathing to calm your mind. These techniques need to be mastered and exercised in order to achieve the maximum result. Once you have achieved your goal, you can relax at the drop of a hat and find inner control in as little as ten minutes.

The gym, fitness classes and general exercise appeal to many as a form of relaxation. You have a choice between running, walking or lifting weights. Others might prefer group fitness in the form of a cycling, kick boxing or tai chi class. Running and walking burn off built up energy and are a great stress reliever, however not everyone wants to run a marathon. For them there are other classes and their purpose is relaxation, such as yoga which focuses on relaxing the mind and body at once. Many people choose to skip the classes and gym all together and simply walk their dogs in the park which offers equally as much stress relief.

Practice makes perfect and remember patience is a virtue. Listen to your body and practice until your body knows what relaxation feels like. Make note of what did not work for your mind and body, remember it for the future. Be patient, if you don’t get it right away, it will happen eventually so keep up the good work. But make sure to keep yourself motivated by reminding yourself you will be healthier and happier in the end and think how nice it is to do something you like!

Teaching your body something new is always a challenge, however once you get the hang of it, it is like riding a bike, your body won’t forget how. It is important to find an activity which you enjoy and know you will stick with, but you must make a conscious effort to remind and train your body to relax while performing this task. It may take time, but in the end the rewards will be fantastic for your mind, body and lifestyle.

How To Recognize Stress And Deal With It

by Mike Makepeace

If we didn’t have stress what would we do when faced with a wild animal about to eat us? We might just stand there and be eaten. Clearly that would be bad for the future of our species so we have the ‘fight or flight’ feelings when we are faced with danger. The problem is that we get those same feelings when faced with other, more mundane, tricky situations.

Our body reacts to stress by preparing for action. Either fighting or running but not for standing still and putting up with it. Our bodies release chemicals which will help us take action be that running or fighting but if you are in the office at work getting stressed by the constant phone calls you can’t fight them and running away would mean you lose your job and your income.

We all have complicated lives these days and while technology has brought great benefits it has also led us to a place where we don’t feel in control of our daily life. Our employer controls our income and we may worry that it could disappear at any time. The banks and the credit cards control our finances and can affect our financial situation at a stroke.

We should not ignore the possible health risks brought on by stress. Health problems may occur that appear unrelated to the stress we face but they might not have appeared if it were not for the stressfull situations we find ourselves in. For most people stress is bad for us and unhealthy and should be avoided or reduced if possible.

Depending on your situation it may be that simply taking a vacation and getting away from work and the problems of stress in your daily life will be enough to allow you to relax and recharge your batteries. We have vacations so that we can rest and recover so take a vacation and allow yourself to relax.

If your stress is caused by financial or family problems you, and they, will probably just get worse if you ignore them. In most cases ignoring stressful problems leads to further problems and greater stress further down the line. If you need help to deal with specific problems consult a qualified professional person and get some advice.

We don’t choose to make our lives difficult but we do have to deal with jobs we may not like, disappointing relationships and family problems. Our financial situations are often less secure and comfotable than we would like. All these factors play a part in the stress we have to deal with every day of our lives.

Excellent Ways To Eliminate Credit Card Debt

by Michael DeMarkks

Reducing or eliminating credit card debt is an important aspect of financial solvency, especially in this economy. Credit card debt is easy to accumulate and much harder to reduce. Eliminating debt is difficult to achieve, but not impossible. This task takes determination, self-discipline, and knowledge of how credit card debt really works. You can do this yourself, use a not for profit credit counseling service, or debt consolidation.

Perhaps the best and easiest way to do this is through your own efforts. Determine which one of your credit cards has the highest interest rate and begin making frequent and higher payments on that card while making minimum payments on your lower interest cards. This will enable you to pay off the total debt faster. Work through your cards from highest to lowest rate.

Another path to eliminating credit card debt is by getting a debt consolidation loan. You can acquire this loan through a bank or other financial institution. Because the interest rate is usually lower, your payments will be lower. You must be aware that you are taking on another line of credit. If you are in real financial trouble, this option may not be available to you. Again, you MUST stop using your credit cards or you have simply added to your problem.

A credit counseling agency can help you to eliminate your credit card debt. These agencies can often negotiate a better interest rate and a reasonable payment plan with the credit card companies. Sometimes, the interest rate may be reduced to zero. This may lower your payments and help to eliminate debt more quickly.

As you can see, getting rid of credit card debt is an attainable goal. You just need a little discipline, a loan, or some assistance. By finding the method most suited for your needs, you can get rid of your debt in no time. So pick up the phone or get started now while you still can.
